Helping Those In Need

Floor made of dirt, walls put up in hast to protect from the storms that were bound to come last winter, roof of a few boards that were found, and not much else. The storms came and washed away parts of the humble floor. “We were always trying to keep the floor, adding to it, and trying to get the running water that would come down the hill from coming inside”, said Teresa, wife and mother of 2.

Eight months the Garcia family lived like this, with not much to keep them warm. “Dirty. With the walls being so thin and pieced together so quickly the wind would come right through. Everything was always dusty,” again Teresa described the small one room home that was before.

Many nights Teresa and husband Jamie would dream of a house, one that her family could stay warm and not feel the bite of the wind. “I would not allow myself to dream,” Teresa said. But when a neighbor received a house it gave her and her husband the hope they were looking for. Within 2 months of applying they dream that Teresa was afraid to dream came true. A team from California came and changed the lives if the Garcia family forever! “I remember a few girls from the team, they were painting. There faces are in my mind, but the names escape me. If I could tell the team anything I would say thank you one more time! You helped bring happiness to our home, never before has someone cared so much to give something so big!” Teresa expressed with tears in her eyes. Happiness and health have improved in the home along with just feeling more like a family.

“After the team left and our house was really ours, my husband was so excited and wanted to start moving things in right away. I kept asking him if it was true! I just was so excited I didn’t want to go to sleep. Here we were in our home and I couldn’t feel the wind, or taste the dirt in my mouth. And Jamie didn’t have to worry about covering the roof when it rained! That was huge to me!” Teresa told of their first night at home. The lives of this family have been truly touched. “Thank you very much for everything! I just want the team to know that!”

Thanks for believing in what we are doing and for your prayers and support

Warmly
